Vocal Techniques for Singers
The most important thing to understand when being a good singer is that you voice plays a vital role and vocal techniques for singers are very important. If you follow the pointers in this article you will find ways to make the most of your voice. You need to understand that the physical discipline in the patient build up of a dancers skill is a good parallel to the body discipline of singing.
If you are a beginning singer your voice exercise sessions should not be for too long so as not to put strain on your voice and your vocal muscles (well, at least in the beginning that is). If you are not a very experienced singer and you spend more than 15 minutes a day doing vocal exercises you are doing far too much.
If you’re not too sure how to do a particular voice exercise and if you practice it for about five minutes a day there is not real damage done, however if you do this same exercise for half an hour a day you will have been doing the technique wrong for far too long and this is not a good thing to do if you want to have a great vocal technique.
It is important to master breathing exercises before you try vocal exercises to improve your voice. One of the most important skills to have when learning out to sing is being able to breath properly this is where vocal/ voice exercises come in.
Follow this breathing exercise and do it each time you plan to do any sort of singing whether it be for practice or performance. Lie flat on your back and put your hands on your waist so that your fingers are facing your bellybutton. Now try and fill up your stomach with air from the bottom to the top taking a slow deep breath. Breath out slowly and count to ten and then repeat the exercise five times.
You should try to practice this exercise when you wake in the morning and just before you go to bed at night, after time you should try and increase this to three or four times a day.
After you have mastered breathing exercises you can start doing some vocal techniques for singers. One very important technique in order for your voice to sound great is to have good posture. There is a lot of muscle movement going on inside of you when you are singing.
If you do not have the correct posture you singing may be affected it is therefore important for you to understand that posture is an important technique to master if you want to become a really good singer.
The next technique that you should focus on is by mentally `hearing’ the sound. Sometimes we sing without concentrating on the first note. You could be “off note’’ and the vowel sound might not be pure. Vocal techniques for singers such as these are really important so that you sound at your best.
With this technique you need to imagine the sound of the first note and hear it in your mind. You need to imagine the exact sound that you want to make – I promise you will make it! Just try and see!
