Due to the fact that some words are easier for your voice to sing than others and the beauty of scale exercises is that if you begin with easy words and master your voice at the `easy’ level in no time at all you will be able to sing harder words.
After a little bit of practice you will be able to sing any word on any note and this also means that you will soon be ready to sing with others too.
It is important that you do breathing exercises while you sing this is important not only when you wish to sing harmony but when you need to sing in general as well I cannot stress how important it is for you to follow through with this step in all facets of your singing.
It is necessary that the right amount of air is exhaled, however beginning singers often pull in the abdominal muscles too fast and this results in a terrible discomfort.
The best way to avoid this pain is to keep abdominal pressure off of the diaphragm for as long as possible, this can be easily done if you do an inward abdominal movement while you are singing the musical phrase – after some time and some practice you will find that this becomes natural.

For this exercise you need a piano (or any organ based instrument such as a keyboard or accordion). Keep doing this exercise for at least ten minutes and then take a listen to what you have recorded thus far. You will be amazed at how much your harmonization improved from the beginning of this exercise to the end of this exercise.
Try this exercise for a few weeks and you will become really good at singing in harmony by doing an exercise such as this you will under the relationships between the different notes and become really good at singing harmonies.
